Vietnam card is in the syrians interest. Their nightmare is 250k american troops on or near their border in a pacified iraq. Their fear is that unless they change their policies they will be next.
I suspect in the end the iraqis will take care of the fedayeen and republican guard soldiers, particularly in non-sunni areas but also in cities like bagdad. Then it is up to the US to do its job right of rebuilding and democracitising and federalising iraq. No easy task, but no vietnam either. Mike
