That's why I asked JLA if he had a good look at the tail rotor, I didn't. In Somalia they were trying to knock out the tail rotors and that's how they brought the Blackhawks down. RPG's have very little range and are very inaccurate but if the choppers get too low as they did in Somalia, a lucky shot can get them....

The Apache is a mechanical object. It is not invincible. Moreover, it is operated by humans. In high stress circumstances, both the Apache and the humans will sometimes malfunction. I fly planes. Have flown them for years. But when the pucker factor rises, sometimes even a well-trained pilot will turn what could have been a controllable situation into a disaster. I am not saying there was any pilot error in Iraq. I am saying that those guys were likely under an awful lot of pressure and so was their aircraft. That can be a recipe for problems. No RPG is needed. With all the stuff flying around over there, we must expect malfunctions. It is actually a marvel that we aren't seeing more failures in that environment.
