if you watch BBC footage from the front, you can see civilians walking along/in front of british armor. clearly they are NOT afraid of the british, which i have to admit is a hopeful sign that we're not simply crushing non-combatants willy-nilly.

I agree. There has been way to much time for the Iraqis to plan counter measures and battle strategies. If Sadam plays the few cards he has correctly and the Iraqis decide that they hate the Americans more than they hate Sadam, I think we will be forced into choosing between leveling the cities or withdrawing without a decisive victory. IE we could be fast approaching a no win situation.

What is really going to make this a success or a failure is the sentiment of the Iraq people and I am not sure anybody has a good understanding of what exactly that is...
