Gore volunteered for the Army. The Army puts you where it wants to, you have no say in it. Nixon didn't want Gore's father to get sympathy votes if his son was killed so he had Gore kept out of action. Gore didn't avoid combat as you suggest, or fail. And you ought to respect the fact he went to divinity school for awhile. God's Own Party has little respect for those who are serious about God, and don't use God for political purposes.
