The problem is bigger than Saddam. The Baath party is like a cancer which has invaded all the vital organs.

JDN:

Patience is a virtue. I believe our military has a 30 day timeline and yes it looks like we need to strengthen our support logistics.

My understanding is MOAB works best for positions above ground and unfortunately the French allowed two extra months for Sadamn to plan and dig in.

At least all but the pacifists now understand the nature of our enemy. Summary executing prisoners and then showing it on TV was a mistake. It will only harden the resolve of the US populace not weaken it. Americans are starting to understand one can't deal with the likes of Sadamn and his like with an olive branch. They only understand force.

It will only be a matter of time when they realize Sadamn was financially behind many threats to the US and its interests.

Enlist Shiites and Kurds, and with our leadership use THEM to kick out Saddam.

If we side with the Kurds, that is going to create problems with Turkey. If we don't, then the Kurds will become a problem. We could stand in the middle and get caught in the crossfire, of course.

And then there's the issue of Shias vs. Sunnis. Iran might get involved in that one.

What a mess! Thanks Bush and company! Things were getting too boring here -- rising unemployment, faltering economy, stocks in a brutal bear-market... ;-)

Hi JDN, I think everyone is underestimating the planning that Rumsfeld and friends did. For one, this war is a hell of a lot more real to us all, because essentially we're all glued to the 24/7 news coverage. That makes us all impatient. The last war lasted 6 weeks. This one may be over before that and this time we're trying to accomplish a hell of a lot more.

The other thing not everyone is realizing is that we have troop reinforcements pouring into Iraq "every minute of every hour of every day" according to Rumsfeld. That means that those troops are rolling in behind the leading columns, sweep up the mess and securing trouble spots. What the U.S. is doing is almost like a classic Blitzkrieg.

This war is much different than the last. The last gulf war was all about pushing back the Iraqi forces. This one is about capturing the flag, the flag being Baghdad. So a fast march that destabilizes the enemy and keeps the scrambling to regroup is exactly what is needed.
