Believe me when I say I have been there and done that. There was no big pile in the picture. That kind of dozer is usually used to level the ground. The end loaders with buckets, or backhoes are usually used to make big piles. Suffice it to say, the onlookers aren't likely describing it correctly. Yes the operator could have been backdragging, but not likely, as one picture shows the blade up a ft. Secondly, not always, but usually, you would lift up the blade, after you shift into reverse, mainly to save time. Also it is easier to lift the blade, if the dirt isn't weighing upon it.
