I wonder if we should even be bothering to discuss TA on the VIX but what the hell.

From a TA perspective it looks like a bear (bull for market) flag on the dailies off the Nov low, today we probed below the putative lower line which would be an important breakdown (certainly if this was a stock).

But we definitely broke the consolidation off the Jan 27 high to the downside.
