The discovery of the chemical plant south of Baghdad is plain evidence that the inspections were not working and had no real chance of working

I'm not saying it was not a chemical plant. But what evidence do you have that it was in active use or even had been used in the past 3 years?

So far I have seen only innuendo and conjecture on this "discovery". No real proof. However if you can direct me to a link...

As I said before I think Saddam has "WMD" just like any 15 year old in the US can make mustard gas. The question is which.

There are really serious issues here. If the Iraqis have and use Nerve gas, what will our response be?

I would imagine the N threat will be discussed. This has pretty terrible implications for the world as a whole.

A chemical plant is not proof of much of anything. If that were so then we should be worryng about Fresno County.

As I've said repeatedly, I think Saddam probably does have WMD. The question is which ones. And as I've noted before it doesn't take a genius to make Mustard Gas. Lots of countries have WMD. That is not a strong argument for an all out war against a country that is so weak that it must accept:

1) No fly zones covering somewhere near 50% of it's entire area.

2) Inspectors who have the authority to enter any building.

3) Surprise inspections and helicopters to transport the inspectors.

4) U2 overflies.

I mean you gotta be pretty weak to accept those kinds of conditions. And the conditions were multiplying. Blix wanted to add a lot more inspectors. Heck they weren't even all deployed yet.

The plain fact is that Bush lacks either patience or his motivations are duplicitous. Probably both. And he's certainly no genius when it comes to diplomacy. Even if you don't care for the UN he's also damaged NATO to a large degree. The guy is a bumbler.
