I still don't understand Lay. In a previous life, wasn't he a professor of economics?

"I was with you until the part about Iraq. Bush & Cie. are trying to do to Iraq today what they did to California in 2000-1."

I don't want this thread to break out into an Iraq side show. But, since our economic growth is glued to the future prospects of reasonably-priced energy, here goes.

I believe that the joint chiefs of staff are not able to tell us everything they know about terrorist activities funded by our bloodthirst for oil. They have to protect their sources as they did from UN inspectors (Imagine our surprise when we found chemical plans the UN didn't know about.)

This nation accounts for 70% of oil consumption around the world and holds less than 3% of all natural reserves including ANWR.

At our current rate of consumption, we can pump all the easily obtained oil out of ANWR in six months despite the fact it will take 7 years of preparations and pipeline construction before we can extract the first barrel.

If you don't want US forces to go to war against the most aggregious of thugs, then we as a nation, need to take a significantly more informed look at the way we squander fossil fuels.

I gladly give credit to George W in that he did not wait until Iraq sponsored an event eclipsing September 11th.

UN and other diplomatic efforts are nothing more than stall tactics doomed to failure 12 years ago.

I came to this realization when I noticed a "My Son is in the Navy" sticker on the back of a shiny new Excursion.
