elmat,

Speaking of cultural relativity, the Rape of Constantinople by the Venetians makes the Turks look like saints.

To this day, the Venetians refuse to admit that they were heinous criminals.

Re: Our problem is that whenever we Latins make a positive contribution, like the Roman Empire, Columbus, Vasco da Gama some barbarians come and spoil it

Caligula is a positive contribution to culture? Wow, you are warped. "Oderin dum metuant" isn't exactly what I would call a contribution. Your mileage may vary.

Columbus was a scoundrel who claimed a prize for the 'first sighting on land' that belonged to one of his crew who was serving as a lookout, and became a victim of a raving asshole who lied about the affair in order to collect the cash.

Vasco de Gama was a merciless master of a slave crew on his ships.

Got any more examples of your heroes? You seem to have a propensity for creeps, cretins and craven criminals.

Though I do believe that Queen Elizabeth ought to be remembered as an infamous lout for knighting a pirate named Francis Drake. It's astonishing that our history doesn't actually tell us that royalty elevated pirates to knighthood for being better at theft than they themselves were.
