Ray, the USA has the best politicians money can buy. Israel gets support because of the Jewish voters in the USA, because of the client nation status of Israel, right there in the middle of the oil fields, for the arms purchases, and overall closeness and mutuality of interests.

There are many such vote buying interests. For example farmers get a bigger dollop of dosh than does Israel [I'm making that up, but think it's the case]. The steel industry got a big dollop of taxpayers money, by the expedient of charging high import tariffs which makes steel buyers choose USA production instead of imports, which extra cost is paid by consumers who have to work more to buy their steel cars and stuff. USA Sheep farmers got protection against competition from NZ and Oz sheep which resulted in higher prices for USA production.

The USA is not for free trade - that's just hypocritical cant to gull the gullible. It's a bit like the trumpeting of human rights, which is excellent for haranguing the Chinese, but isn't applicable to subhumans in Guantanamo Bay or who are handed over for interview to the USA's buddy General Dostum [who is a Saddam clone, but a younger version with high-tech training in the finer arts of cruelty and power at the point of a gun]. Even Homeland 'free' Americans are bound by an infinite array of laws, regulations, edicts, Homeland Security, so that the 'freedom' doesn't look very free.
