A few details to spice the story:

(1) That has got to be the most ridiculous spelling of an Arab name Latin letters and completely misses the pronunciation, which is more like "Kasheqje".

(2) Adnan K. is the uncle of the late Dodi El Fayed, who was killed with Lady Diana of England in a car accident. Rumour was that they were both "erased" by British secret police, because Diana was pregnant, they were going to get married, and the UK could not bear the mother of its future kings being related through marriage to Adnan :-)

It is a conflict of interest when anyone working in the government arranges to profit from a firm doing business with the government. In this case, Pearle works for the government for free, and uses that fact to argue there is no conflict of interest.

The really interesting thing here is that some people are willing to believe that Pearle, Cheney, etc. have no conflicts of interest.
