10:35AM Most portfolio managers are 'bullish': Salomon SB ($SPX)

by Tomi Kilgore
Salomon Smith Barney said a recent survey revealed that the majority of portfolio managers were upbeat about U.S. stocks despite concerns over the war in Iraq. Of the managers surveyed, 60 percents described themselves as "bullish," and 80 percent were expecting the S&P 500 Index ($SPX) to end the year on a positive note. Only 2 percent described themselves as "bearish," while 30 percent said they were "neutral." Factors believed to the most influential in restoring investor confidence in stocks were believed to be resolution of the war with Iraq, improved corporate earnings, tax cuts and the resolution of corporate accounting issues.
