irrespective of all this wrt Davis, my biggest issue with him is his "leadership" in 2001/2002 timeframe. The stock market was being decimated, the tech areas which are one of the main engine of Ca economy were not recovering as expected, and Davis did nothing to slam on the brakes of the bloated CA budget. He either was too dumb to notice we were going down or more likely didn't feel compelled to do anything since it was an election year. Both of these are inexcusable imo. There are even some threads on SI from spring 2002 "the impending california budget crisis"- just an indication of how obvious the states budget problems were.
