<< Sure, we could have tried to push for political reform and democracy then, for all the countries in the region. >>

Easier said than done. The history of the world is a violent one. The tyrants of the world are numerous.

Sure we've made some mistakes, but so has the rest of the world also.

Russia could have pushed for reform, rather than invading Hungary and Poland, during their freedom movements. Japan could have opted for peace, rather than attacking China and America during WW II.

Germany could have pushed for political freedom rather than starting WW II. The Arab nations could have pushed for democracy and freedom. But, they didn't.

<< Basically, we created the mess we see before us now,
all through the 80's (and before), from our intervention
then lack of follow-through during Bush I, etc.
>>

So..... you're a member of the blame America first club. Don't acknowledge any of America's good deeds. Just blame America for all the failures of the world, regardless of what actually happened at the time.

<< I don't want anyone to be under a dictator, but there
are many repressive govts in the world besides Iraq.
>>

And, you say that ALL of these repressive governments were caused by America. We had a choice to support a democratic government or a repressive dictatorship, and we chose the dictator?

<< Also, I think the world should do this - not just the US and British. >>

I wish the world was free and democratic. I wish that countries would do what is best for the people, and not what is best for the people in power.

I wish that the world would start putting pressure on all repressive regimes. I wish the worthless Pope would take five minutes out of his time counting his gold coins, to condemn ONE dictator. It isn't going to happen.

<< I hope it goes well, and is over quickly, but if it is not, everyone loses - as US soldiers are killed or taken POW,
Iraqi military that was forced in by their govt. is killed
in massive numbers by US, Iraqi civilians are killed, and
finally hate will grow against us in the region.
>>

At least your note was well thought out, and not just antiAmerican bullshit. As is clear, I don't agree with you laying the blame for the world's problems, on America. But, at least, I feel that you doing what you think is right, and I can respect that.
