RSA Security Comments on Trading Halt; No Change in
SEC Probe Status

March 26, 2003 20:16:00 (ET)

BEDFORD, Mass., Mar 26, 2003 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- RSA Security Inc. (RSAS,
Trade) announced that its stock was halted at 3:58 p.m. ET today by the NASDAQ National Market
due to unusual trading activity believed to be caused by an incorrect headline on Bloomberg
Business News.

In its Annual Report on Form 10-K filed today, RSA Security reiterated that it had been notified on
January 23, 2002, that the Securities and Exchange Commission was conducting a formal
investigation into certain matters relating to the Company and trading in its securities. The Company
had previously disclosed this information in news releases and its SEC filings. There was no
significant change in RSA Security's disclosure regarding this matter in today's filing.

Shortly before 4:00 p.m. ET today, Bloomberg incorrectly reported that RSA Security had disclosed in
its Form 10-K a change in the nature of its ongoing SEC inquiry from an informal probe to a formal
investigation. Bloomberg has since issued a correction.

The actual text related to this matter in the company's 10K filed today is as follows:

"By notice dated January 23, 2002, the Securities and Exchange Commission notified us that it is
conducting a formal investigation of (1) our disclosure of a change in our method for estimating our
distributor revenue, and (2) certain trading in our common stock. On or about July 11, 2002, the SEC
staff notified RSA Security and some of its officers that the staff was considering seeking
permission from the SEC to commence a civil injunctive proceeding against them, and that RSA
Security and the officers could submit a written statement explaining why no such proceeding
should be commenced. We and the officers submitted such a statement in August 2002 and are
waiting for the SEC's response. We and the officers are continuing to cooperate with the SEC, but
we cannot predict the ultimate outcome of this matter."

RSA Security will announce its first quarter 2003 financial results after the U.S. financial markets
close on Thursday, April 10, 2003.
