Was Iran an enemy when we sold them weapons: yes or no?
was Saddam a "madman" when we sold him weapons: yes or no?
Why sugest that a change in Administrations is the difference? the faces may change (and many have not) but motivations remain the same. take off the blinders.

I agree with that point wholehartedly. We've changed alligences many many times over the decades. We were, after all, allies with the Soviets during WW2 and bitter enemies with imperial Japan and NAZI Germany. And just a mere ten years later, our alliances had completely flipped. We had a bitter cold war going on with the Soviets and were rebuilding Japan and Germany into allies in the cold war effort. Now, we have bases in some of the former Soviet republics in central Asia. As the saying goes, politics creates strange bedfellows. War, what a racket! You know how many people get rich from wars?
