Dear Mindmeld: We seem to be in at least partial agreement with one another here. I too feel a well set up government with at least a democratic bent will do wonders for the Middle East. Those of us that lived through the Marshall plan and the Japanese reconstruction have seen with our OWN EYES what is possible, even in the light of a Cold War and TERRIBLY beat up infrastructure. I am AMAZED that FRANCE AND GERMANY are fighting us EVEN ON THIS. They of all people know the possabilities, I am thinking they LIKE to have unrest in the Middle East to sell arms and all?? As to Bush, his reelection IMHO stands totally upon his Iraqui success. If thinks work out, he will be a shoo in, if not then likely a disgrace. America LOVES A WINNER. I think its important EVEN FOR OURSELVES to have a successful conclusion here. This is big enough, and important enough to perhaps FINALLY wipe out the Vietnam mentality that the scum of this nation has imposed upon us. jdn
