One of the biggest advocacy groups against DU are Gulf War Vets and Balkan War Vets, who claim to be suffering from Gulf War Syndrome and Balkan War Syndrome.

Much as I hate to discount what US war veterans say, I've looked into this quite a bit and see no credible medical evidence that either syndrome has any credible medical explanation attributal to DU.

It appears to me to be junk science. A fertile field for greedy trial lawyers and those who want on the gravy train, and those who will use anything they can against the US, forming a rather unsavory alliance.

This is based on lengthy review of medical research available online.

One researcher suggests that Gulf War Syndrome and Balkan War Syndrome might be a version of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, which I think is interesting. PTSD is actually a physiological reaction to stress, but given the stigma on mental illness, and the public perception that PTSD is a mental illness, this explanation isn't going anywhere fast.

In fact, PTSD victims have poorly understood but objectively demonstrable changes in brain physiology which are very poorly understood.

The study of neuronal plasticity is a very exciting field of medicine which is in its infancy.
