Don't forget that effectively Saddam does not have an air force. US has been "going easy" on Iraq because it does not want to kill conscripted soldiers. If resistance remains strong, it may be seen as a "them or us" situation, and the Iraqi army will be hit from the air in a big way.

This has already started to happen eg a column of Iraqi tanks that headed out of Basra yesterday has been completely destroyed.
