As I see it, the US has to now win decisively and quickly as possible. My guess is that they will start worrying less and less about civilian casualties as things get tougher. My reason is that any weakness will be seized as an opportunity for countries like North Korea and Iran as signals that high tech armies can be fought. It will also send them the signal that the only thing missing is nuclear weapons before country becomes a major power. That has been the biggest blunder on the part of the administration's thinking. If the battle is not quick, threats to other countries like N. Korea will be meaningless. That is the reason, this has to be finished quickly and maybe mop up later with the help of a new Iraqi army that emerges when Saddam is overthrown. No matter what they thought of Bush's thinking (or lack thereof) before the war, I believe they hope victory is near or else. I realize it is only a week but there are much bigger risks to the world now than there were before the war. Just imagine what is going in the head of the N. Korea leader.
