Xybernaut Announces NATO-Approved Options for Wearable Computer Platforms
Thursday April 3, 8:50 am ET Power Connectors for Military Assault Vehicles, 12-Hour Run Time Batteries Now Available
FAIRFAX, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 3, 2003--Xybernaut® Corporation (Nasdaq: XYBR - News) today announced a variety of options for its Atigo(TM) and Mobile Assistant® V (MA® V) product platforms, which include NATO-approved power connectors that are specifically tailored for HUMVEE and other vehicles as well as mil-spec connectors for #BA5590 batteries. The new Xybernaut accessories target homeland security and military deployments with a focus on enhancing power management, ergonomics/wearability and support for NATO military specifications.
Lind Electronics vehicle charger adapters are now available for both Atigo and MA V. The Lind adapters are NATO spec devices that adjust, condition and regulate the power from the input on the vehicle - whether it is an assault vehicle or an automobile - to the correct DC voltage required for the MA V or Atigo units.
Xybernaut has also announced a 12-hour flat battery option for the MA V. Flat batteries look like individual place mats for dining, however, they contain a DC power supply. Devices are charged when placed in contact with the mat.
Additionally, both Atigo and MA V extended-life batteries can now be charged while in their extended-life pouches. This reduces the chance of misplacing power/charging components and reduces the amount of effort involved in charging extended-life batteries.
Xybernaut wearable/mobile computers have been deployed in a variety of field force applications in industries as diverse as military/government, retail, hospitality, manufacturing, and inspection/maintenance. As a result, comfort, flexibility, ruggedness and extended battery life become critical aspects of customer deployments.
"For more than a decade we have worked closely with customers and partners to design wearable computing solutions that serve their diverse and often unique needs," said Edward G. Newman, chairman, president and CEO of Xybernaut. "The accessories introduced today demonstrate our success at developing techniques and tools to extend usability and enhance comfort for users."
Atigo and MA V products have internal rechargeable Lithium-ion batteries with a run-time of approximately 3.0 hours under continuous use. Additionally, Atigo and MA V products have optional hot-swappable external batteries that more than double run-time.
Other accessory options already available for Xybernaut products include desktop charging cradles, AC chargers, car chargers, external batteries, head mounted displays (HMDs), wireless keyboard/mouse options, as well as a variety of soft-goods for wearability and ergonomics.
