Pardon me if I don't take up that kind invitation, whatever happens...

We didn't originally settle on war with Iraq because Saddam might possess some minimal chemical weapons capability... Really, look at that sentence. As an excuse for war, it's ludicrous.
I'm not sure what the underlying reasons are. zonder summarised some; I suspect pride/national ego, geo-strategic aims on the control of the ME (or, to be precise, it's oil) and the enhancement of Israeli power are at the root. These aims are all viewed through a glass distorted by bitterness over Vietnam (remember Cheney's vintage), clouded by dogma and warped by absolutist views which will not permit of anything other than absolute dualism.

"You're either with us or you're against us" is a good slogan for 8-year-olds playing at war. It doesn't even cover a football match - neutrals? officials? casual spectators? fans from other teams? visitors and tourists? - never mind anything as complicated as international diplomacy... and no one nation, even one as militarily powerful as the US is currently, can avoid this...

Is it a surprise you're getting no takers for that offer? They don't care what is uncovered in this war. They even know, deep down, that Saddam possesses what Colin Powell claims. Either way, they will continue to protest this action after it is over.

This anti-war "dissent" is not about war or Iraq or children. It's about one thing, George W. Bush.
