My position...which IS clear to everyone:
except you apparently

The problem is in waging a full scale war and creating wide rifts between longstanding traditional allies to do so.
Even if WMDs are found I still don't think that justifies the war.
The war would have been justified had the inspection process been allowed to proceed to the point that the rest of the UN Security Council would have agreed upon. saddam had not threatened anyone with WMD's and would not have done so with inspections continuing. The 3 months it would have taken for the rest of the world to reach the limit of patience would have ensured a REAL coalition...not one of the "willing" but one of the determined.
But I suppose the US didn't think there would be enough war spoils to share with others.
The rift that was created will likely negatively affect international co-operation in efforts to diminish or halt international terror at the same time the US has acted in such a way to increase the likelihood of terrorist recruitment and target seeking.
The question with me was not whether or not saddam should be removed but in how it's being done.
There were viable alternatives and those alternatives were actually in progress. That's not to say the alternatives were making progress but that had yet to be seen. As long as there were alternatives, there was no need for war...yet. The litmus test for war should be need. And the judgement of the importance or imminence of that need should not be left to one person much less one country. The decision was made in a vacuum...not a wise thing to do in matters that concern the whole world. It's that arrogance which will work more against us than anything...for quite a long time.
When saddam is gone...the world and the vacuum-sealed US will not be any measure safer in terms of justifying the cost of the choices made.
