As a Canadian it saddens me to have to make a stand here on this board.I fully realize we as Canadians have the right to voice our opinion on this Iraq war and our PM has done so.It is my opinion that this decision by our PM has done severe harm to our Canada-USA relations to the point where Canadian corporations could suffer from these eroding conditions. I absolutely think Mr.Chretien must reverse his decision and stand with the USA on this issue, not in the interest of our businesses but in the interest of our largest and long term friend and ally.EOM.

The basis for alliances shifts, and with many of our WWII and post-WWII allies, the shift is a tectonic one, and there's no going back. We'll end up having different allies for fighting a different enemy.

Cheers!

Of course, breaking up is hard to do, so there is some regret, some tears, some 'do you still love me' and a some people in the family still think the old girlfriend is better than the new girlfriend.

Que Sera Sera.

Paul

<We'll end up having different allies for fighting a different enemy.>

This is what I thought, during the battle of Afghanistan. (I refer to it as a battle, not a war, as I consider it just one campaign in what will be a decades-long war.)

I was tremendously encouraged, when we got so much help from Russia. They seemed to be over their resentment at losing the Cold War, and realized the U.S. and Russia had permanent strategic co-interests in fighting Islamism.

But, I have become tremendously discouraged since then, because all the potential "different allies" have abandoned us. And they have abandoned us, because of specific attitudes and doctrines of the U.S. Administration's foreign policy. We are losing the core allies of the Cold War, and I don't see any replacements.
