Ted,

Informal profiling is when one decides that a particular kind of person like a Muslim must be responsible for a particular crime because of past experiences you have had with that group of people. In other words, informal profiling is another term for biased conclusions.

I see you are trying to reconcile the political dogma with practicality. The second it became clear that these were 2 passenger planes that hit WTC, I every logically thinking person suspected extremists <edit extremist muslims>. So why not go through the list of passengers looking for most likely suspects? Do you think they should have first checked which of the passengers were British nannies, accountants, professional athletes?

I understand that this is the dogma of the political ideology that you subscribe to, which you are not allowed to question. I am just pointing out that it makes no sense.

As far as not reaching incorrect conclusions, conclusions come later after examining evidence.

Let me describe it differently. Think Gary Kasparov vs. computer chess player. The reason he is able to beat the computer many times (or at least be competitive) is because of "profiling" of possible moves. His brain power can process a fraction that is almost infinitesible of the possibilities. His power comes from rejecting out of hand the vast majority of doubtful actions, while concentrating his mind on examining the most fruitful moves.
