Ted,

however, I am against making assumptions or conclusions based on a person's exterior.

Not necessarily exterior. Being a member of fanatical Muslim group is not exterior, but interior. You don't have to be Arab. You can be Johny Walker Taliban, the Washington sniper, or the last nutcase, whose name escapes me.

But exterior too. For example, males, say 15 to 40 are much much more likely suspects of something like the 9/11 plot than females or other age groups. A 10 year old girl is highly unlikely capable of piloting Boeing 767.

Profiling can be very dangerous because you decide to exclude Brit. nannies and that's the person OBL has chosen to do his next dirty deed because he figures no one will suspect.

Not exclude. You try the most likely suspects, and if you don't get anywhere, you start to make your way down the list to less and less likely suspects.

Suppose it takes you a day to examine one passenger, and you have 300 passengers. With profiling approach, you get to the right guy very likely on day 1. With your approach, treating everyone the same, you can expect to get to the right person on day 150.

Again this is very simple and straight forward logic, vs. dogma.

But this isn't a game of chess and we are not competing against a logical computer but rather a religious ideologue whom I find to be much more dangerous.

And you completely missed the point of the example.

Joe

But in order to do a dirty deed for Osama, you have to want to do it for him. A Christian British nanny is not going to be an Islamic fundamentalist.
