We're limited in our method of waging war by our own ethics, however.

Exactly - especially as we say that we're going in to protect and help the majority of Iraqis, and not to enslave or colonise them... it won't look good if we indiscriminately - or even carefully - kill civilians. [And due to propaganda, not to mention association with the way Israel treats the Palestinians, I really doubt they'll be thinking well of us anyhow].

We can't expect the Iraqi 'resistance' to work the same way. They probably won't be too careless themselves, because a resistance movement has to keep friends and supporters in the occupied population - but they only need maybe 1/10, perhaps just 1/50 or so to make things very unpleasant, and even less if they use suicide tactics. Plus, if we do anything stupid like seeming to loot or profit from 'their' resources, IMO we'll be seen exactly as another colonising power and face huge resistance.

I suppose it's a little late to ask survivors of the French Maquis for their advice... I wonder if there's a Rick's Cafe in (say) Teheran?
