It didn't blithely invade Kuwait. It was pissed off at Kuwait for slant drilling, and deeply in debt to Kuwait for the Iran/Iraq war. Iraq put some feelers out to the US about our interest in their dispute with Kuwait, and we accidentally gave them the impression we were not interested in what they did in the region. ooops

Even with the above taken into consideration, and even considering a non-blithe invasion, under international law they still deserved to be repulsed. Now what is your point? That we invaded them preemptively because we knew they would use civilians as shields? That we invaded them because they kill their own people (have you taken a look at Amnesty International lately? That's a very broad pretext for starting a war- we'll be invading everyone if you're going to use that.)

I am not kidding myself about who were dealing with. But I'm not kidding myself about the actions of our country either.
