Oh yes we have set a precedent for preemptive neutralization. Now we will get to live with the progeny of that precedent. I have heard no one say we brought 9/11 on ourselves. I've heard people offer "reasons" for 9/11- but reasons and are not justification, or the same thing as "you brought this on yourself". Although many people on SI are very confused on that issue. Instead of "facile" I think what you are reaching for is "disingenuous". Of course you are incorrect either way, but word choice is important.
