Inasmuch as I respect your opinion about John Ashcroft, I beg to differ: I believe he is a highly manipulative self-serving politician. A person of his mindset could easily become a political animal, given the right circumstances.

His pithy and profound quote so impresses you that you believe he is an angel and you become starry-eyed with admiration for him. Remember: not by a man's words but by his works must you judge the man. By the way, he is still new in his job.

Just my opinion only. My 2 bits worth..........!!!

The attorney general of the United States said:
"Islam is a religion in which God requires you to send your son to die for him." "Christianity is a faith in which God sent his Son to die for you."

Christianity has evolved over the centuries.
But, in the days of yore, when Christianity was cruel and Crusades and civil wars and conquests of foreign lands were the order of the day, you could say that Christianity was also a religion in which God requires your son to die for Him.
LOL!
Too bad Islam has not evolved and Moslems didn't have a Paul of Tarsus to create "myths" that won converts in droves. (See my postings on the Contradictions in the Bible.)

John Ashcroft overlooked that part of world history. But no matter. As he is from the Bible Belt in the Deep South,
it was politically opportunistic for him to say something that has a ring of "truth" and strikes a responsive chord in his listeners.
