the real shit is that the $$ that needs to be spent to guard the REAL front line ...the USA...is being spent elsewhere..that should be our primary concern

the war will soon reach our shores. The borders are like an open door STILL..and we now have many more NOW who'd like to take a stab at us. The Flood of terrorism will come and we're no where near prepared to deal with it

S1 -

I've said this before - we should have taken a counterinsurgent approach with Saddam. It takes longer, but it uses the same rules he plays by.

In terms of getting the best mercenaries in the world to do the job - right now, the best soldiers in the world belong to us. I don't mean this from a boastful point of view.

It is also too soon to jump to conclusions about the war in terms of a timeline. Massive operations make you vulnerable to "shoot and scoot" units. There is nothing more adaptable than a soldier in the field - they have no choice. Those guys will figure is out in a hurry.

This is so tragic. Lot of civilian are going (and have already died). It happens in every war. The difference now is you see it on TV from the comfort of your living room before the commanders see it. Not to justify this war at all, but Hussein is setting his people up....he doesn't care...he operates with an entirely different framework than we do. He is trying to win the propaganda war played out on TV sets. So far he's winning...but it's only going to take him so far.

I'm going to put my energy into the next election...the weapons of democracy, regime change via the voting booth is the most potent and frustrating system in the world.

As a practical matter, I prayer this ends and we can help rebuild Iraq. If you put the Iraq petroleum assets on the the open market it is in the trillions. We damn well better make sure that money is used for Iraqis.
