<<...My point is that so long as we have not won the hearts and minds of those people, we will never win this war. Even if you get rid of Osama, you will deal with worse version of him later on...>>

ST: I agree...I would have found a diplomatic solution to the Iraqi problem...Yet, if the Bushies are so driven to overthrow Saddam and engineer regime change there are MUCH SAFER ways to make it happen -- We now are viewed as 'an occupying power' and the daily bombing is only increasing...We NEVER really adequately supported an internal Iraqi resistance group that wanted to overthrow Saddam...We should have very quietly used very well funded mercenaries to assist an internal resistance...There would be no conclusive way to trace things back to the U.S. and it would look like a coup...That would go over SO MUCH BETTER in Iraq and throughout The Arab World...Saddam has many enemies and they just never had the appropriate intelligence and support to follow through and eliminate his regime -- I believe we could have made that happen. Our Administration never really believed in 'containing Saddam' so they should have selected the best way to deal with him (and insure as few side effects as possible)...I fear we have chosen the costliest option -- look at how we seriously damaged relationships with Allies around the world by arrogantly going against the will of the U.N. Security Council...Look at the rising Anti-Americanism around the world -- terrorism could INCREASE significantly...Look at the price tag for this war in Iraq -- $100 Billion for starters....then we have to rebuild the country after our extensive bombing campaign...So many innocent Iraqis and U.S. soldiers will die in George Bush's war...The masses throughout this country may be 'shocked and awed' when its all over and they realize the true cost in blood and treasure...I know there was a better way to deal with Saddam...We had MANY alternatives...The Administration was very stubborn (and in bed with the military-industrial complex) and they wanted a war -- they'll tell you they tried to avoid one though...JMHO.
