While I agree with you that a joint effort by Iran and Syria has good chance of success, from the Iranian perspective there is no need to rush. Unlike Syria, Iran has considerable influence in Iraq. They will just use this to drag US in long enough until time runs out for this administration. They don't have to take direct action. As well, militarily, invading Iran is extremely difficult. This is not just because their geography is much harder than Iraq and their military is superior (if pesky Fedayeen could get attention...) or that they are capable of arranging counter strikes via terrorist activities. But the biggest problem is that they can very easily block the flow of oil from the Persian Gulf for everyone. Against Iran's wishes, the Strait of Hormuz is impossible to keep open. Syria however is not so lucky. So may be they will get hit next.
