"retired generals...should stay retired" I would take the advice of 20 retired combat veteran Generals over one man who has NEVER SEEN ONE DAY OF COMBAT. Rumsfeld is not a deity who has some secret to war. By the way, it was also current generals who told Rumsfeld that his force was too light and that he should wait for a northern front before attacking. Our allies the British are saying the same thing. Rumsfeld thought he was smarter than the military establishment. He was brilliant in Afghanistan, but that does not give him a free pass now. There was no downside to waiting for a northern front or waiting for overwhelming force. Criticism is the way we make things better for the future.
