I'm one who normally does not believe in a leopard changing his spots, but Sharon really appears to have. He did some sh*tty things before he became Prime Minister, but he's been relatively responsible since.

You think its responsible for the PM of Israel to go on Israeli tv and say that the Palestinians will never have their own state? He's done that twice this year. In the meantime, he's tearing down Palestinians' homes so that he can build his great wall. Do you think that's responsible?

He promises the US no more settlements in the West Bank and then he starts a new condo complex in East Jerusalem. Give me a break? He's looking for trouble........I don't consider that very responsible.

I'd assume this is for three reasons: One, because he's realized that there was absolutely nothing to be gained from his previous positions. Two, most Israelis really want peace and still are holding out for a two-state solution (to avoid a demographic disaster) and if he doesn't oblige them he won't remain PM for long. Three, he really despises those to the right of him, largely because many of them are religious and he's devoutly secular.

Your reasons may be valid but if Israel wanted a two state solution, it would be done by now. There is nothing to suggest that Israel is committed to a two state solution. I really think the long range plan is to annex large portions of the West Bank into Israel proper, and keep the Palestinians on 'reservations'.

>We can only hope but its Hamas that needs to be neutralized most.

The al-Aqsa Brigades (of which Arafat is the Supreme Leader) are just as dangerous these days.

You're right!
