Gary:

<I would expect that there would be a greater fear of terrorist attacks after the beginning of the invasion.>

As Charley Reese recently observed, the terrorists are currently busy at work...lazily swinging in a hammock under a nice, shady tree and sipping a cool drink.

As much as we might want to puff out our chests and say, 'we won't let the terrorist win' the fact that we are MORE concerned about a terrorist attack because we are doing something we think they won't like, they are being 'successful'. They are forcing us to consider the impacts of our actions. No? (Is there, eventually, a positive side to terrorism? A recognition by those in power that they must take steps, not to accomodate the disenfranchised...but to take steps to listen to minority views and attempt to prevent some groups from becoming disenfranchised?)

This reminds me of our 'war' on drugs. A military solution to an issue very possible not amenable to a solution by force.

But to a guy with a hammer everything looks like a nail...
