Sentences like that advance your argument backwards

Think so ? I'll have to think about it.

If you typed that Islamism is "a cancer to an enlightened civilization," that might get us closer to the truth

Well, I'm American of Irish ancestry and I'm not so sure that the IRA wasn't a cancer in the big picture of civilization. Maybe not to me but others I'm sure would argue differently.

Perhaps it is "violence" and those who cause it that are cancers. I like that better personally.

If you typed that Islamism is "a cancer to an enlightened civilization," that might get us closer to the truth.

Islamism only exists (other than a really marginal form of sect) because of the corrupt governments in so many of the Muslim states. It's become the only viable combatant of these regimes since they have been able to so effectively put down any democratic movement.

So to carry the disease metaphor, it's these dictatorships that are the real cancer to enlightened civilization.

Without corrupt governments, religious extremism has simply no chance of getting anywhere this century, it will be doomed as surely as the Church was doomed to lose its total preeminence as the "theory of everything" in Europe when scientific enlightenment began to progress.
