In relative terms, Israel has a greater advantage over Palestinians than US has over Iraqis. If they are still having problems, what makes you think Bush will have better luck?

Ah, I see the confusion. I thought your time frame was the next election. If you are talking about the long term aspects of an occupation of Iraq, you could be correct. There are so many variables to consider in that equation, however, that it's almost impossible to think them, let alone place survival bets on them: the possibility of long term guerrilla war inside Iraq; if that takes place, whether Syria and Iran might try to support it, however, hidden such support might be; the willingness of the US population to support long term occupation in the face of serious guerilla warfare; what sort of administrations will succeed Bush; etc. All very large variables.

I find them akin to the argument David Corn makes against the Bush administration's rather rosy picture for a successful reinvention of the ME through force.

Finally, A Dream of War Comes True

US will have more to offer the Iraqis, when US gets control. Hopefully, that may solve the problem. And US is not planning on bringing a large number of settlers.
