CNN just reported that thousands of Iraqi X-pats who left Jordan for Iraq were previously believed to be going there to fight Saddam but now there are reports that they are fighting the "liberation" troops.

Since people are able to enter Iraq it would not be so difficult for members of al qaeda to also do so.
al qaeda wants to fight the US. They're already in the area where the US has committed to a large presence. It would only be logical to find al qaeda members now in Iraq.
The stories that they are in Iraq being used as "proof" that saddam was in league with al qaeda all along does not take this into account.
