It is my impression that behind the scenes there are huge problems brewing between the UK and the States. And if the humanitarian crisis gets out of hand it could sweep aside the war - hard to believe - but a week ago we wouldn't have believed what has come to pass. The logistics of the humanitarian effort will get in the way of the war and vice versa. And Americans are after all a decent people - being badly led at the present. I see there's a story on CNN about Rumsfeld warning Syria that shipping arms to Iraq is an 'unfriendly act'. The two little boys have really started something. I had an argument with someone yesterday who objected to my using the word 'adventure' to describe this fracas, but I thik it is the right word - for isn't an adventure something one enters into without being able to determine the outcome? Of course the two little boys thought it would be a snip and not an adventure at all, it is however turning into one. Rather amazing that Perle has already departed, one of the architects of this after all.
