They convinced Nixon to pull the troops out<<<< The passage of a long length of time just wore everyone out especially the Johnson administration. Without question the peace activists played some part, but it took a long long time. >>Did you ever actually participate in any anti-war protests?<< Yes two peaceful demonstrations(Vietnam era). I then did serve in the military and had high level security clearance. I did disclose the two participations. >>>I've never made any secret of my past, and I've never felt any fear.<<< The problem is when there is an arrest for civil disobedience or other infraction. Even then it doesnt really hurt one enterering most educational law or medical professions. The problem is specific in the business world. If there is an arrest, an IBM, GE, Hewlett Packard etc will pick that up and will be silently used to proceed no further with employment and/or put a career with some employers on hold. Today, the same is true of a very negative credit report. Most employers in the business world do background checks for both criminal (from Local Police..State Police and FBI) and credit reporting agencies. I will mention two things. Right or wrong, I do think there is a major difference between Vietnam(I always had great respect for the men and women who served there) and whats happening today. During the Vietnam era there was a black and white mentallity with the administration. Communism vs capitalism. Today, communist states are tolerated. Cuba is an example. Communist but...and this is important. Castro is not brutalizing his people, nor is he developing tons of anthrax. The administration tolerates. The same can pretty much be said for China. Iraq is a different situation. Dictator that tortures and kills his people, manufactures chemical agents and hosts known terrorists. My belief is that the regime presents a current and near future threat to this country. Without 9-11 in this country, we would probably just let Saddam and his regime just fester. 9-11 changed that. I do wish we have had the balls to just mount a covert operation to take out Saddam. To be effective we would have had to take out his 2 ruthless sons and about half a dozen other high ranking officials. I wish our troops well in Iraq and Kuwait and will welcome the day they remove that regime.
