You want to move to a different dance floor? Fine by me. None of these labels are correct of course. But they get put in common usage, and we use them to communicate. "Neocon" means "New Conservative," and that is not true of the group that is described that way. They were not "Scoop Jackson" Liberals who went conservative, but Neocon is what we call them. The same thing has happened with the Wilsonian label. The Chattering Classes have pinned it on the Necons, so they now have a double label, in addition to every bad thing you guys on the left can think to call them. I knew you felt that we are attempting to install Democracy by force. I think we are going to try to get some sort of Federalist Government installed, with a stable Police and Court system. We will see our job there as keeping the peace. There will be lots of Terrorist incidents, of course, which will keep Carl happy. But the big thing, from our point of view, will be how Syria, Iran, SA, and Lebanon play out. We both know from our reading that a major struggle is on to decide how to "Nation Build" Iraq, and the outcome is uncertain. It will be a "Trial and Error" process depending on who gets control as State and Defense struggle for supremacy. And a lot will depend on how much of the infrastructure we destroy as we finish this up. No matter what we do, you consider everything that the Bush Administration does to be from the "Dark Side," and will never consider it to be anything but "Empire Building." But one thing we both know, it is going to be fascinating to watch it play out. The last time this was tried was when the British reordered the ME in 1920. They had no interest in anything but Empire, with vassal Kings to run things for them.
