Whether it is same, better, or worse, I don't know. All we know is that very many people who are alive today will be dead tomorrow, and more each day after that until this war pauses. What is the point of dropping ten thousand bombs on Baghdad ? And how will that endear the bombers to the population ?>>> Endearment is only a small part of the equation. We would hope the Iraqis would appreciate being freed and that ousiders would would look upon us in a better light for trying to do that. If we were solely out for endearment, why did we get 70mm Frenchmen pissed off enough to stop buying Coke and Burgers merely by taking sooner, an action they would have to agree to support later ? I have no way to tell how Iraqi casualties this year would relate to what their average casualties, pain, and lifetime disfigurements would be under another year or ten years of Saddams rule We can try to compute what the casualties among the 300000 US troops would be statistically if they were in civilian life rather than the Service It works out to be around 134 deaths per year due to highway accidents and suicides alone, plus 1128 injuries. Or 3 per day , to be compared to whatever rate we are suffering in Iraq. And being in the service provides a healthy life style which which prevents many other problems incurred in civilian life which would add to the totals. Beyond cold statistics, the close-in tragedies of losing friends and family, such as occurred on 9-11, some Iraqis will remember the torture and killings of their own by Saddams henchmen, and some will blame it on the US. Saddams MO is to make certain we get the blame for all the negatives incurred for his entire 30 year term in office Sig.
