Or because we PUT him in power? And the Iranians hate us because we PUT the Shaw in power...

Possibly.. but it doesn't change my argument...

But all countries make mistakes. Look at the mistake the Taliban made... :0)

I don't think anyone believed Saddam could be as ruthless as he is.. And when he attacked Iran, he served a useful purpose in containing them, while bleeding himself... Pretty ruthless analysis on OUR part...

And you might have an argument about "cleaning up our own act", were it not for the fact that the US has provided very little support for Saddam (relatively speaking)...

It has been France and Russia, not the US, who has played the most important role in Saddam's life. Both of those nations saw him as their own Shaw(sic).. selling him arms and even a couple of nuclear reactors (only one delivered)..

The US is fighting against T-72s, T-55s, fedeyeen carrying AK-47s, firing RPG-7s.. None of which were sold by the US to Iraq... Weapons used to repress and murder Iraqi people, subjugating them to the will of Saddam's regime..

Chemical weapon manufacturing technology sold to Saddam by the Germans and France... used to murder Kurdish civilians, and to wage forbidden attacks against the Iranians...

So if anyone needs to "clean up their act", it would be France, Germany, and Russia.. All three of which opposed removing Saddam from power... And all three of which were opposed, or hesitant, to even removing Saddam from Kuwait back in 1991.

Is it because they have something to hide??
