There are more Islamic people in the world that are merely repressed by the fanatics than there are fanatics. However, they cannot speak up without provoking a death sentence from the fanatics (Islamic law).

A Democratic Iraq would begin the change that is necessary for that region and its people. It's funny how the eyes are opened when you are free to make money and gain influence. Suddenly, the money is no longer concentrated in a few hands but spread out to the masses through free and unbridled commerce.

The Kurds have the best chance of taking advantage of a new system immediately. They have been living under a Democratic system (albeit simplistic) since their exile to the far Northern region of Iraq.

BTW, most of the Muslim people who feign hatred of the US and the willingness to join with Iraq in this war are all talk and no action, ...or armchair soldiers.

On your second point, ...you're right on the money.
