Back to armchair war strategy Bill. What if strategy is changed and we consolidate the victories in the south, west and north? The liberation of basrah will play well for us when it occurs. I know we had been looking to decaptitate the snake, but there might be too high a price to pay. But when 80% of irag is under coalition control and Tikit has fallen(two-three weeks out) saddam will be the president of bagdad only.
Seriously though, with the Republican guards backed into bagdad and if we not firing on bagdad at all, it might force saddam to try to take the initiative and move them out to attack our forces. And/or a siege of badgad with us allowing food in, and perhaps we are the one to send the flowers.
Obviously this is not the current plan. I have no idea if it has any merit. Just struck me that it may be a more traditional approach of taking territory with the last stop bagdad which at that point may just fall of its own weight or the weight of republican guard forces fed up and not willing to commit futher suicide. I still think the complete liberation of Basrah should be the #1 task regardless of any overall change of strategy. Mike

I wonder, on a tactical level, how we will handle it. We never had this to deal with before in a War.

We have seen very similar action before in places like Nha Trang, Saigon, Danang. Pleiku etc.
Also out in the boonies between those cities.

They were not called terrorists then. The given name at that time was sappers.

This was bound to happen. It will be interesting to find out if he is a local Fedayeen, Al Qaeda, or an import from Palestine.

This is the kind of trouble I expected from Hezbellah. Who knows though?
