I'd probably hook up as a medic, but it wouldn't be beyond me to pick up a gun mice elf. I saw the streamer Fri nite saying we are sending another 100,000 troops over there, and I got a chill; oh, shit, it's Viet Nam. No, it won't be 7-10 years, but it will be maybe a half million soldiers, and, if Rumsfield doesn't shut his effing mouth, we are gonna be at war with everybody all at the same time, and our kids are gonna be drafted. Now, when this thing drags on for a few more weeks, and the daily pictures go out to the entire wirld, people are gonna be really pissed a us. (Grossly understated, I'm afraid). I see an oil embargo coming here, and maybe JW's much feared bailout of foreigner holding US assets. On the other hand, there was a very light fog hanging over the fields of wild mustard on the way home, and the turkeys were hanging out in my neighbor's meadow. It's a good day. in a few months, we will be on a path just like Beirut that was my precise thought all last week, Scooter agreed with you 100% much of Beirut still lies in ruins it is the current main home of HezBollah soon we will have to make a decision allow hit&run guerrilla tactics to hurt us or tolerate massively higher civilian casualties we will justify it somehow like "shorten the war significantly, we are not being welcomed, they still are loyal to Saddam, they are offering cover to the Fedayeen, all in the name of liberation, anything for the fuching oil fields" in 1977 I shared an office with a Lebanese fellow at graduate school his name was Badi B, a gentle kind bright man he was very sad about the destruction of his home city: Beirut he attended American Univ of Beirut we talked about it many times Moslems vs Christian Phalangists vs Jews utter destruction of the “Jewel of the Mediterranean” this is what I expect will happen to Baghdad but for now I cannot see a 3rd participant it could become Saddam's loyals versus Iraqi Nationals (opposed to Saddam but who have no love for US occupying force) versus Brit/US forces all in time, utter destruction of Baghdad we have a good head start and easily justify it as hitting military and admin targets we hit the television and telephone networks last week we hinted we would not, since so clearly a civilian benefit but we justify both easily, as Saddam propaganda tools when the fighting comes to outlying city streets of Baghdad you will see horrific fights with entrenched irregulars they will do exactly what they are doing now in Basra and two other southern cities mixing in with the local civilians they are hitting & running against Brit and US soldiers I fully expect Basra or another southern city to emerge as a disaster from water shortages and food shortages the water needs are huge on a daily basis we will attempt to supply, but will be fired upon eventually supplying civilians will dominate the war we are fast approaching a new decision kill civilians on a much larger scale or watch our death rate rise to an alarming level we will not back down, a sign of weakness instead, we will become a lethal force killing innocents only then will our true motives be laid bare for the whole world to see a benefit to allowing more civilian deaths is the foregone need to supply them with water, food, and other essentials WE WILL BLAME IT ON THE FEDAYEEN, A NOBRAINER HERE OUR US OBJECTIVES: 1. SECURE OIL FIELDS BEFORE ARAB BOYCOTT OF USA 2. SECURE MILITARY AIR FIELDS BEFORE EXPULSION FROM SAUDI'S PRINCE SULTAN 3. STEM THE FLOW OF ARAB PETRODOLLARS TO EUROPE all three will fail the only Weapons of Mass Destruction to be seen are those used by US Forces tomahawk cruise missiles and bunker busters we are even talking about small atomic bombs to be dropped on Saddam's residential bunker we will choose killing civilians, an easy decision but we will make it look like an excruciating decision in fact, we will not acknowledge the decision at all it will just happen we have too much experience with the ugly trade and too much experience justifying it IT WILL CAUSE THE ARAB WORLD TO ABSOLUTELY ERUPT !!!
