Powell misled Bush badly on the Palistinian crises last year, and made him look bad. Powell delayed the Iraq action for months, only to have the French stab him in the back with the knife of the UN. He'll stay through the election, because, basically, he's a Bush supporter. Then he'll retire, and write books and articles for a living, making a fortune on the lecture circuit. It's not that Powell is really a bad guy. He could never gain acceptance as a Republican presidential candidate (no economic fundamentals) but, As Michael Corelone said to Mo Green, "You're unlucky."...

Postscript: The relationship with France is in ruins, as well it should be. The relationship with Germany is recoverable. Schroeder and the Kraut media don't even come close to reflecting the real emotions of the vast majority of Le Bosch. The relationship with Russia is the key. Putin, despite the recent embarrassments, is determined to have an amicable relationship with the US. He has internal enemies to overcome in that pursuit, and will need time and help to do it. America understands nothing about Russia, and the "establishment" media, with their Stalinist roots, is totally HOPELESS on the subject. Rice is America's foremost Russia expert and realist. Her star is rising, and there's no discernable limit to how high it can rise. Watch Rice closely, and you may well be watching America's future over the next two decades...
