Less than 1% of precision guided munitions have not hit their intended targets thus far in the war. I certainly don't see how anyone can call that "less than reliable". I don't have statistics to disprove your less-than-1% number but less-than-1% seems to be less than acceptable in a crowded city like Bagdad. We barely got away with the losses in Afghanistan but in the case of Iraq, its being made to look like we are slaughtering the people. Before the war started, there was fear that the Iraqis would try to make things look worse than what they are.........unfortunate for us, they don't have to.Furthermore, the war plan called, UP FRONT, for the "rolling deployment" of forces, under which forces would be deployed according to an event-driven schedule. I see absolutely no objective evidence that things are not moving precisely according to the Pentagon's plan. None. I don't care what the plan was......there are flaws to the plan; it needs to be revised. What I do see are nitwit reporters (someone pointed out this morning that the average American has far more military experience than the average reporter, which is, no-doubt, true). Oh, now its the reporters fault.....who wanted the 'embedded' reporters......do you think it was Saddam's idea? Besides, the reporters are not responsible for errant missiles slamming into Saudi Arabia or Iran or worse, into a crowded marketplace in a poor district of Bagdad that seemingly has no military value. How military smart do you have to be to know that a 350 mile supply line will be hard to maintain when you don't control the land it runs through? What indication is there the 350-mile supply line is "hard to maintain". Apparently, they have pretty damned good control of it. A division requires 8,000,000 lbs. of materiel daily. They're obviously doing a pretty good job of keeping the front lines supplied. Again, you're working on CNN & Guardian press reports, which are anti-American and pro-Arab biased. Last nite, some soldiers were on the front lines were saying they are short of some materials and supplies like water, not seriously short but short nonetheless. There are all kinds of reports of a singular vehicle or a small convoy being picked off by Iraqi fire. And then there are the reports of what looks to be civilians approaching places along the supply line and then opening fire on our troops. Given the above, I would be reconsidering having such a long supply line but then that's me.A major element in the war plan was the assumption that the Iraqi people, particularly the Shiites, would treat us as liberators. This is wrong. This assumption was not a major element in the war plan. There clearly was an attempt, early on, to use propaganda in an attempt to get all the forces to collapse they could. But at this point, it is about killing the Republican Guard. And we're killing the hell out of them at this instant. THAT was the war plan. Ideally, the war would have been avoided. It wasn't. The WAR plan was to kill the enemy, and that's what we're doing now. Big time. I'm sorry you must be looking at a special war plan; the one's I've seen assumed considerable capitulation of Iraqi troops much like in the first Gulf war. I must have the 'liberal version' of the war plan. And we haven't even gotten to the part I worry about the most......street to street fighting in Bagdad Ms. Clark was clear about it this morning. We are doing precisely what we want to do...killing Republican Guards before we engage in hand-to-hand combat. These soldiers have are losing all ability to fight -- the threat of chemical weapons is being removed, I would suspect they're dying by the thousands, and those remaining are not going to be able to fight. We are a ten days into a war where three days were spent mired down in bad weather. Well, by your view of things, the war should be over by the end of April. That is good news! Not as good as Eric's who thought the war would be over by this weekend but in a month is certainly doable. I look forward to the victory dance. And hopefully, this war will be over in the next few months If you're expecting months, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. I got that from the above......based on your analysis, I have revised downward to the end of April.......good........before it gets too hot. Subject Titles Only Full-Text
